BLIND SIGHT’S BACKGROUND
I Was A Practicing Registered Nurse Specialising In Trauma For Many Years And After Working In Foreign Trauma Units Overseas I Decided To work In The High-End Medical Device Industry In Both Sales And Management Roles.
I Was Unable To Work In This Role After Being Diagnosed With Optic Nerve Drusen Some 38 Years Later.
Very Little Information Was Provided With Regard To What Was Available For Me In Terms Of What I Should Do Next. After A Week Or So Of Dealing With My Vision loss, I started To Research Services In Queensland That Could Assist Me. I Decided To Reach Out To Guide Dogs Queensland And Was Offered Orientation And Mobility Instruction In 3 Months Time. After Completing My Courses, I Commenced Training For A Guide Dog. Since Then, I Have Worked As An Assistive Technology Specialist And Other Related Roles And Graduated As An Assistive Technology Mentor in 2021 From Assistive Technology Australia. The Reason That I established Blind Sight, Was To Fill An Information Void For Recently Diagnosed Vision Impaired Individuals. In addition, I Also Wanted To provide Assistive Technology Training And Assessments For Both Vision Impaired And For The Blind.
